What We Do
Starter Motor Repair Done Right
A bad starter is one of the most frustrating failures — the car won't even try to turn over. But before we condemn the starter, we rule out the other suspects: dead battery, corroded cables, bad ignition switch, or a faulty neutral safety switch. Getting the diagnosis right matters because a new starter is expensive.
At Lynn's, we measure starter current draw, voltage drop across the solenoid, and cranking behavior to pinpoint the failure. Then we source the right OEM or OE-quality starter and get you back on the road — usually the same day.
We've replaced starters on BMW, Mercedes, Honda, Toyota, Ford, GMC, Chevy, Dodge, Nissan and more since 1974. Whether it's a pickup truck or a high-mileage luxury sedan, we've got the tools and the experience.

Our Process
How We Fix It Right the First Time
Rule Out the Battery First
80% of 'bad starter' calls are actually battery or cable problems. We load-test the battery, check voltage drop on both cables, and verify ground connections before condemning the starter.
Test the Starter Under Load
With the right equipment, we measure starter current draw while cranking. A starter pulling too much (or too little) current tells us exactly what's wrong.
Replace & Verify
If replacement is needed, we install an OEM or OE-quality starter, verify proper cranking current, and confirm the vehicle starts reliably before you leave.
Every Repair Backed by a 2-Year / 24,000-Mile
Nationwide Warranty
If anything we fix has an issue within 2 years or 24,000 miles of the repair date, we'll make it right — no matter where you are in the country. That's our commitment to every customer, on every repair, since 1974.
Questions from Downey Drivers
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my starter click but not crank?
Clicking without cranking is usually one of three things: a dead/weak battery, corroded battery cables causing voltage drop, or a starter solenoid that's seized. We test all three to find the real issue.
Can a bad starter drain the battery?
Usually not when the key is off. But a starter solenoid that's stuck partially engaged CAN create a draw. If your battery keeps dying overnight, we'll do a parasitic drain test to find the real culprit.
How long does starter replacement take?
Most starter replacements are completed same-day. On some vehicles the starter is easily accessible and it's a 1-hour job; on others (many Hondas and BMWs) it's tucked under the intake and takes longer. We'll give you a realistic ETA up front.
Do you warranty the starter?
Yes — every starter we install at Lynn's is backed by a 2-year / 24,000-mile nationwide warranty on parts and labor.
Can you come tow my car from Downey or nearby?
We don't operate a tow service, but we're on good terms with several local towing companies. Call us at (562) 803-5611 and we'll recommend one who can bring your car to the shop.
