AC Condenser & Evaporator Repair
in Downey, CA
Leaking condensers and evaporators are a leading cause of AC failure. We find and repair leaks, and replace both — backed by a 2-year / 24K-mile nationwide warranty.
What We Do
Condenser & Evaporator Repair Done Right
The condenser sits at the front of your car, behind the grille, and sheds heat from the refrigerant. It gets hit by road debris every day — rocks, bugs, salt — and eventually corrodes or punctures. When that happens, the AC stops getting cold.
The evaporator is buried inside the dashboard under the HVAC box. It's harder to reach but also more protected. When the evaporator leaks (often at o-ring connections or from long-term corrosion), the repair is a bigger job — often 4 to 8 hours of labor depending on the vehicle, because the dash often has to come out.
At Lynn's we diagnose which component is actually leaking before we quote the work. Sometimes it's just an o-ring where the evaporator connects to the expansion valve — a cheap fix. Sometimes it's the full unit. We tell you the difference and let you decide.

Our Process
How We Fix It Right the First Time
Identify the Leak Location
Using UV dye, electronic sniffer, and pressure testing, we pinpoint whether the leak is at the condenser, evaporator, connections, or elsewhere. That determines the repair scope.
Repair or Replace
Minor leaks (o-rings, loose connections) we repair. Damaged condensers get replaced — usually a 2–3 hour job. Evaporators are bigger: most require dash removal, which can be a full-day or multi-day job depending on the vehicle.
System Service & Verification
After replacement we flush the system, replace the receiver/drier or accumulator, pull a deep vacuum, recharge to spec, and verify vent temps across the full RPM range.
Every Repair Backed by a 2-Year / 24,000-Mile
Nationwide Warranty
If anything we fix has an issue within 2 years or 24,000 miles of the repair date, we'll make it right — no matter where you are in the country. That's our commitment to every customer, on every repair, since 1974.
Questions from Downey Drivers
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do condensers fail?
Road impact from rocks and debris is the number-one killer of condensers in Southern California. They sit right behind the grille, unprotected. Corrosion is the second — especially on older vehicles.
How long does evaporator replacement take?
It depends heavily on the vehicle. Some are a 4-hour job; some BMWs, Mercedes, and minivans require 8+ hours because the entire dashboard has to be removed. We give you the honest estimate after we inspect your specific vehicle.
Can a leaking evaporator be patched?
Almost never. The evaporator is an aluminum coil inside the HVAC box — patching it isn't reliable. By the time you've paid for the labor to access it, you should replace the unit.
Is the musty smell from a leaking evaporator?
Not usually a leak — more often it's biological growth on the evaporator from condensation. We can clean the evaporator and AC drain to eliminate the smell. We also sell cabin air filters that help prevent it.
Is the repair warranted?
Every condenser and evaporator repair or replacement is backed by a 2-year / 24,000-mile nationwide warranty on parts and labor.
