AC Leak Detection & Seal Repair
in Downey, CA

Refrigerant leaks cause AC failure and are harmful to the environment. We find every leak — o-rings, hoses, condensers, evaporators — and seal them properly. 2-year / 24K-mile nationwide warranty.

What We Do

Leak Detection & Seal Repair Done Right

If your AC needs refrigerant more than once in its lifetime, you have a leak. Simple as that. Continuing to recharge a leaky system is paying to vent expensive refrigerant into the atmosphere — which is both wasteful and illegal for technicians to do knowingly.

Finding a refrigerant leak is part science, part detective work. Small leaks (o-rings, Schrader valves) can lose a tablespoon of refrigerant a year and hide from every sniffer. Bigger leaks (condensers, compressor seals) show themselves within weeks. We have the tools for both: electronic refrigerant sniffers, UV dye, pressure-hold tests, and 50+ years of pattern recognition on where each vehicle tends to leak.

Common leak sources we chase: o-rings at line connections, Schrader valves, condenser fins, compressor shaft seals, evaporator core connections, hose crimp points, and the service port caps themselves. Each has its own fix — we won't just 'add stop-leak' and send you on your way.

Signs You Need This Service

  • AC loses cooling over weeks or months
  • Needs refrigerant every season
  • Oily or greasy residue on AC lines or fittings
  • Compressor clutch cycles too fast
  • Visible dye staining (if previously UV-tested)
  • Hissing sound when AC is off
  • Previous 'stop-leak' can was added — these often plug expansion valves

Our Process

How We Fix It Right the First Time

1

Pressure-Hold Test

We pull a vacuum and hold it. If vacuum degrades, there's a leak. This rules in or out major leaks immediately.

2

UV Dye or Electronic Sniffer

Depending on the size of the leak, we'll use electronic refrigerant sniffing (good for fast leaks) or UV dye (good for slow leaks — requires a few days of driving before re-inspection).

3

Seal or Replace

O-ring leaks, Schrader valves, and minor hose leaks get repaired. Condenser, evaporator, and compressor seal leaks require component replacement. We show you what we found and quote accordingly.

Questions from Downey Drivers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you find a really slow leak?

Yes. For leaks too slow for the electronic sniffer, we add UV dye to the system, have you drive it normally for a few days to a week, then re-inspect with UV light. The dye fluoresces bright green at the leak point. Very effective for intermittent slow leaks.

Should I use 'stop-leak' cans from the parts store?

Please don't. Those 'miracle' products contain polymers that clog the expansion valve — a $50 can of stop-leak often causes a $500+ repair. If you already used one, tell us, so we can flush the system properly.

How much does leak detection cost?

Leak detection is usually part of a standard AC diagnostic. Call (562) 803-5611 for current pricing — the diagnostic fee is applied toward the repair if you proceed with us.

Why do o-rings leak on older cars?

Rubber o-rings degrade over time, especially with heat cycling and UV exposure. Most cars 10+ years old will leak at o-ring junctions eventually. The fix is replacement with new o-rings rated for the specific refrigerant in your system.

Is the leak repair warranted?

Yes — every leak repair at Lynn's is backed by a 2-year / 24,000-mile nationwide warranty on parts and labor. If the same leak comes back within that period, we make it right.
